“Knowing what I wanted to do in the future and picking the right career has always been a goal of mine,” an IS student said. This year’s Careers fair has been nothing but more helpful to us as students. It has been life changing for us by giving us the opportunity to speak with people who work in key fields, from being a pilot to being an orthodontist. With educated speakers who have experienced ups and downs in their careers talking to us about what they do for a living, we are sure that many students have already gotten an idea of what they can strive to become in the future.
With more than 30 booths showcasing different fields of work, we were able to learn about professionals’ daily routines and what their jobs are all about. Not only that, but we also found out a little more about their personal backgrounds, specifically, what has brought them to their careers. Through discussion, we gained knowledge on how they built their careers, whether it is a family business, passion or other reasons. They taught us that the key factor that firms look for in their workers is people who are hard-working and well-balanced. Many students were surprised to find out that to work in a field, you do not necessarily have to study that course while you are in high school or university! Everyone was very open to answering our questions.
Students found this year’s Careers fair helpful towards their future choices. Many of them have found a more defined career path. Although some of us may still be quite unsure of what we may decide to do as a career, we found out that doing what we are passionate about will pave the way to success. This is what we repeatedly heard when walking around the booths, which has proven to be true for our guests.
“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” -Confucius
