Island School Graduation was held on Thursday 4th June at 4pm. This was an excellent community event, well managed by Kevin Lester and with tremendous support from the office staff. Our guest of honour was Alan KK Leong, chairman of the Civic Party and ling time pro-democracy campaigner in Hong Kong. His speech combined his experience as an IB parent with a challenge to our graduates take up more meaningful goals than mere fame and wealth. “You become happy by making other people happy”.
It was interesting how some of these thoughts were echoed by our four student speakers, Oliver Engelhart, Amanda Ho, Sebastian Engelhart and Louise Hannaford, who described the Island School experience and collected thoughts about the future. Making the event even more meaningful, Jessica Tham and Sound11 gave unforgettable performances, which everyone enjoyed.
Congratulations to the following winners of special school prizes:
Dai Chem: Thomas Basford (13D)
Nan Robertson: Jessica Tham (13E)
Jimmy Kim: Karina Chan (13N)
Council Prize: Haihao Liu (13W)
David J James (Boy): Nicky Chan (13E)
David J James (Girl): Tiffany Meerovitsch (13F)
The reception afterwards was catered by Chris Lord’s food technology students and the ISPTA, and was excellent in all respects apart from the heat! It was a great opportunity for the school and parents to celebrate the success of our students as the officially take their leave and move on to the next phase in their lives.
Professional graduation photos are currently being edited. Once the photos and video are available, we will give you relevant information so you may access them.
We would like to thank everyone who made the event possible: Mr. Kevin Lester, House Staff, Support Staff, Y12 volunteers and the ISPTA.
