For all Year 8 parents, as well as new Y9 and 10 parents:
In line with changes to the Island School curriculum and as the next step for us as an institution with our 1:1 laptop program the school has taken the decision to enter into a license agreement with Adobe that allows students in Years 8-10 to install and use Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design and Web Premium on their machines during those years. The cost of the license is approximately HK$264 per student per year which will be entirely covered by the school and we will help students to install the software.
We have taken this decision because we feel that the creative tools that constitute Adobe Creative Suite are the best available and are the “industry standard” in their field. All students have the opportunity to learn and apply these tools in the core ICT curriculum from Year 8 onwards and they are also used widely in Design & Technology and have application in Art and Island Time. Additionally, students that decide to take Elements courses specifically orientated around Adobe software will have the opportunity to understand them in great depth and achieve Adobe certification.
Please take some time to read the license arrangement and process that has been established between Island School and Adobe as your cooperation is needed.
The license is a rolling 3 year agreement that covers our Year 8, 9 and 10 students as well as staff.
- If your son/daughter is in Year 8 in 2014-15 then they will have the software on their computer until they finish Year 10 in 2017
- If your son/daughter is in Year 9 in 2014-15 then they will have the software on their computer until they finish Year 10 in 2016
- If your son/daughter is in Year 10 in 2014-15 then they will have the software on their computer until they finish Year 10 in 2015
During the license period the student will be entitled to use the software freely and receive any further updates free.
At the end of the license period the student must remove the software from their machine so that the next Year 8 cohort can enjoy the license.
At the end of the license period parents will be asked to sign a letter that confirms the software has been removed from the student’s computer. Island School will provide online support to help students with uninstallation of software.
Creative Suite 6 is a large file so we ask that students download the trial version at home and then use the voucher (see page 2 on the attached letter below) to receive the key to unlock the trial from the technicians in Room 143.
Please indicate that you have read and understood the terms of the license agreement by signing the parent confirmation slip (see page 2 of the attached letter below).
