Writer, film maker and Everest summitteer Matt Dickinson talked to students about his adventures on the North Face as part of the literature festival at school this month. Dickinson spoke of the excitement of night climbing and how the isolation is enhanced by the enclosing darkness and how easy it is to hallucinate or lose your way. He also ran a writers’ workshop offering practical advice about how to create a sense of excitement and tension on the page.
Dickinson’s visit was part of two weeks of events, World Book Week and the HK Young Readers’ Festival. Over the fortnight students dressed up as literary characters, battled it out over their story knowledge and most importantly they were introduced to some good books!
