The Baiwan Charity Committee will be delivering boxes of toys and stationery to the children of the community on 24th June.
Baiwan is a small district in northern Guangdong, finding work in this area has become increasingly difficult since the closure of the cement factory in 2007. Many adults have had to go to the cities to find work, leaving only children and elders in the region. In a community of 5000 some children have to take care of themselves and their younger siblings. They lack access to proper; housing, education nutrition and identification.
As well as teaching and interacting with the children, Island School students also raise funds for the childrens’ education, supporting the building of dorm rooms and the purchasing of bunk beds.
You can still make donations of good quality toys and stationery until the 23rd June to the Hall Balcony.
