We have reached the time of year when we need to begin preparations for our Year 13 students to complete their time at Island School. Here are some key dates to remember as well as some additional information regarding this crucial stage.
31st March – IB Diploma Study Leave begins
28th April – IB Examinations begin
19th May – IB Examinations end
23rd May – BTEC Lessons end
23rd May – Graduation
29th May – Dinner Dance
6th July – IB Results
IB Diploma and IB Subjects
March 31st will be the last formal day for IB lessons. The examinations begin on the 28th April and the examination office will be sending out individual timetables to the students in due course.
From Tuesday 18th April to Friday 21st we will be following the usual timetable for IB lessons but these will be on a voluntary basis only for students. For some the opportunity to meet their teachers after the Easter break could help them to go through any questions they may have. For other students however it may be more appropriate for them to stay at home to revise in this period as they can get distracted by friends in school at a crucial time.
All BTEC lessons end on May 23rd. Students will need to have completed all work by that date.
From the 18th April BTEC students only have to be in school for their actual BTEC lessons. They will not need to attend registration, any IB lessons, tutor period or Games from this point onward. If any students are taking an IB examination they are entitled to study leave the day before the examination. If there are students who have not met expectations in terms of course progress by this stage they will be required to stay in school for the whole school day as normal in this time.
Post Results Service
Detailed information will be provided to all students and shared on the Parent Portal regarding what happens after results are issued. The Higher Education team will also be running sessions with the students this term to ensure they are fully prepared in terms of accepting offers and what to do post results.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Graduation in May. Before that we will also have the IB and BTEC Art Exhibition from the 14th – 17th March as well as the Applied Learning Show Case Evening on the 14th March. Further details on these events will be provided at a later date.
Dear parents and students
Please find below the PROVISIONAL timetable for the upcoming public exam series during summer. Its final version will be released in early March.
Exam timings and venues are subject to change due to clashes with school events.
Inter-house Swimming Gala
Thursday 19th January 2017
Please be advised that all students will be attending the Inter-house Swimming Gala on Thursday 19th January at Victoria Park Indoor Swimming Pool.
This is a compulsory school day and attendance is expected for all students.
All school buses will drop the students off at Victoria Park Swimming Pool. If your child makes their own way to school, they need to be at the swimming pool by 8:00am please. Registers will be taken by form tutors to check attendance.
All students are expected to wear their house coloured PE top/house polo and must remain in the spectator stand to support their house.
Competitors are welcome to wear their own swimsuits; they do not need to wear the Island school swimmers. However, board shorts are not allowed!
The program of events has been published on the school bulletin with approximate timings of the events. If parents would like to come along and support you are more than welcome.
The gala will finish at approximately 12:30 and students will be released from Victoria Park. There will be buses to Pier #3 and Admiralty MTR leaving as soon as the gala finishes. Tin Hau MTR station is a very short walk from the swimming pool.
If you have any questions please email Mr Pennel at email@example.com.

Calling Year 12 & 13 students!
Looking for a meaningful internship and community service experience next summer?
We are Summerbridge Hong Kong, a nonprofit organi
ation, and we’re recruiting students interested in a unique opportunity to teach and mentor underprivileged youth in Hong Kong! Since 1992, many ESF students have been our Student Teachers and have counted it as one their most impactful internship experiences.
Our model is “Students Teaching Students“, where older students like yourself (16 – 22 years old) teach younger students (13 – 15 years old). As a Student Teacher, you will participate in 7.5 weeks inclusive of teacher training, teaching a subject of your choice to a class of 8 – 10 students, and planning engaging events. You will work with an incredibly diverse and enthusiastic group of Student Teachers from high schools and universities around the world, stretch your creativity, take on leadership roles, and collaboratively create a supportive space of learning!
