Year 9 Geography Trip to South Lantau

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I would like to inform you about details of the upcoming Year 9 Geography trip to Mui Wo, Lantau Island on either the 21st or 22nd January 2015. The classes will go as follows:

Wednesday 21st January 2015 Mr Sims Wednesday group Mr Sims Tuesday group (Mr Davis) Ms Campbell’s period 1-Wednesday group
Thursday 22nd January 2015 Ms Campbell’s – period 3 Wednesday group Mr Sims Thursday group.

All Students will come to school as normal on the day of their trip days for a briefing in lesson 1, (unless they live in Mui Wo itself)  The groups will go by bus down from school to the Central Ferry piers and will take a public ferry to Mui Wo. I would request that the students bring their Octopus cards with them with 60$ credit to pay for the return ferry journey.

The purpose of the trip is for students to investigate the environment of Mui Wo, South Lantau. Students will be working in teams to conduct an environmental impact assessment for different sites in the area. They will produce a collaborative Business Plan for a sustainable tourism enterprise idea as part of their assessment for this unit

Students should bring a packed lunch and drinking water, clipboard, pen and paper, a large transparent plastic bag can be useful to protect worksheets from the elements. Warm and wet weather clothing (a coat, layers of clothing, umbrella)  will also be required as it can often be cold and wet in January. Staff members will check that students are correctly attired before departure. A camera/smartphone are also useful for the students.

I would also request that you complete the attached reply slip to indicate what you would like your son or daughter to do at the end of the trip in terms of transport home and return this to the reply drop box in the general office. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions about the trip.
