From February 27 to March 2, six students, Chul Soo Ahn (8N), Chirag Bellani (10N), Noah Chang (10W), Ryan Lee (10F), Arundhati Mukherjea (10N) and Eugene Wong (10N), travelled to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on a four-day trip to participate in SEAMC 2014.

SEAMC, an abbreviation for the South East Asian Mathematics Competition, is a regional contest inviting international schools from all around Asia to send two teams of 3 to participate in a number of Maths tests. Apart from the traditional individual tests, there were different formats of competition for team participation, such as the Passback, the Energizer (which is similar to Dragon/Gecko Maths), and the Team Question round. Throughout the entire competition there were also more relaxing events. The Maths trail at a local theme park was one competition we all enjoyed, as we could apply our mathematical skills in a more realistic way and see why learning Mathematics is never confined to the classroom!

From a results point of view, we did not win any awards but still did well considering the people we were competing with: all of us were in the top 40%, whilst two of us were able to get into the top 20%! But although these results were an outcome of our work this weekend, what is more important is our learning of new Mathematics, making new friends, and hopefully taking away many good memories of this competition.

On behalf of the entire team I would like to thank Mr Stafford for organizing the entire selection and planning process as well as taking us to Vietnam.
